Soooo... This Might’ve Been Perimenopause All Along
I started this website in 2016 when I was having sleep problems. I learned a lot then (which is documented here) and I’ve continued learning as I’ve built my sleep confidence. I’ve had a lot of realizations over the years—some of them big, some coming after a few days of struggling.
It has taken all the tools I’ve written about here, plus a healthy mindset, to even begin to understand myself, my body, my hormones, and how our menstrual cycle ties it all together. And even me—the one who wrote here not to psych yourself out—I’ve done exactly that. Some nights, I still do. But it’s mindset that always brings me back.
Now that I have a handle on how my cycle relates to my hormones… next stop:
Perimenopause.
No!
Yes.
I have a lot to say. I’ve done a lot of research—mostly research of self. I’ve been studying my patterns, my food habits, my moods, workouts... and decided it’s time to start blogging again as things keep unfolding.
To start: I’m 48 now, and I’ve been in perimenopause for about a year—at least it seems that way. But when I read back through this site, I might’ve already been starting back when I wrote Remember When.
It’s taken a lot of work—getting to know myself, my body—to feel even a sliver of agency over all this. And as I’m typing this, I’m realizing: maybe the start of this website was the start of perimenopause.
My period is now all over the place, so I just make sure I’m protected all month (that’s as much TMI as I’ll give :). So far, so good.
For my first blog, I’ll share what I do—my lifestyle, the changes I’ve made—and if you’re interested, you can follow. Or just read. (I hate the word follow).
Stay tuned.
